MINI-REPORTS
FROM THE WEEKEND:

Friday Night Mixer
Friday, July 4, 2008

The Gossip Bar at the Anatole Hotel was the perfect venue for our Friday night mixer, "Let's Catch Up!" Records show that 101 people spent about four hours trading memories and sharing stories of our lives these past 45 years! Of the number attending, seventy-four (74) were 1963 Bisons and came from as far away as Hawaii, Maryland, Tennessee, Illinois, Colorado, Wyoming, New Hampsire, and Georgia.

Saturday Morning Golf
Stevens Park Golf Course
Saturday, July 5, 2008

The reunion golf event was about as much fun as you can have on a golf course. The conditions were perfect Ð great weather overhead and a beautifully groomed course underfoot. Twelve Bisons and friends formed three teams: Team 1-- Dwight Brock, Tom Tennison, Jack Kellam, and Chuck Johnson (Joan Bailey JohnsonÕs husband); Team 2 -- Eddie Rogers, Mike Griffith, Don Sheffield, and Jere Reiser; Team 3 -- Jim Duffey (Diane DigiacintoÕs husband), Karen Krause Redding, Bob Redding, and Scott Hunt. Susan Moore Hunt and Donna Miller OÕHare played Òcart girls,Ó distributing encouragement, water and sodas to the golfers. Margaret Evans Bradley and Mary Roberts Mokry served as support personnel and ardent Bison fans. All three teams tied with a score of -6. After a scorecard playoff, the winners were team 2. Mr. Guzick would be proud.

Saturday Night "Some Enchanted Evening"
The Morton H. Meyerson Syphony Center
Saturday, July 5, 2008

Ah, and what an enchanted evening it was! The perfect venue, the perfect people, the perfect food, the perfect music. If you weren't there, you really missed out on a great time, and we really, really, really missed YOU! Fifty-seven members of our class enjoyed a first-class event, thanks in great part to Les Studdard, Tom Bell, George Curry, Sharon Waters Rigsbee, Scott & Susan Hunt, Eddie & Suzie Rogers, and all the other members of the Reunion Committee. Les' connection with the Meyerson allowed us to enjoy one of the most beautiful settings EVER for a reunion gathering. Tom Bell coordinated the event and directed the set-up.George Curry supplied the wonderful goodie bags (see below to purchase leftovers) containing T-shirt, ball caps, and the committee added a bison "stress ball" for fun! Sharon Waters Rigsbee made wonderful decorations out of records with pictures from Sundials of our years--what memories! Scott & Susan Hunt purchased door prizes, Eddie & Suzie Rogers supplied the great nametags so we'd recognize each other, and Bruce & Kathy Brown donated the handsome bronze Bison. Bruce also wrote and performed the Bison blessing before the drawing. DJ Pat Hester's music got EVERYONE out on the dance floor before the evening was over. His mix of music was perfect for our crowd--from the "Stroll," to the "Twist," to the cheek-to-cheek favorites from our youth. Way, way, way too much fun was had by all!

Sunday Morning Brunch
Terra Nova Cafe, Doubletree Marke Center Hotel
Sunday, July 6, 2008

"Never Say Goodbye" Farewell Brunch was the theme for this final event and it certainly lived up to it! We only expected about 30 people and ended up with 47! Alas, the hotel management forgot to tell the restaurant staff we were coming, so there was a little delay in seating our group. Once we all went through the buffet line and found our seats, we enjoyed a nice breakfast and had a chance to say farewell, lingering over coffee and taking a chance to say goodbye for another five years.

BOUQUETS FOR BISONS
Three cheers and a great big thanks to all those Bisons who spent numerous hours creating, planning, working, reworking, calling, e-mailing, ordering, painting, cutting, sorting, proofreading and doing all those things it takes to pull off a reunion. The class of '63 produced an amazing number of talented and very dedicated individuals who gave unselfishly of themselves to make this reunion possible.
The following people deserve a special thank you:
Tommy Bell took care of the books, got our DJ, and managed the myriad of details associated with all the reunion events.
Margaret Evans Bradley designed the artful invitation and put together the directory. (What an incredible amount of work.)
Diane Digiacinto Duffey, our resident creative consultant, composed the poem and created the text for the invitation.
Les Studdard was responsible for the elegant night at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center.
Eddie and Mary Sue Ferguson Rogers created our clever nametags.
George Curry secured our terrific gift bags.
Sharon Waters Rigsbee once again wowed us with table decorations fit for the beautiful Meyerson. And Jan Boles Thompson, Katherine Brown Brown and Betty DeLange Freeman helped with setup.
Scott Hunt arranged and organized the golf event.
Susan Moore Hunt compiled the database and assisted Scott with the
golf event.
Keith Packer (as always) helped us track down missing Bisons.
James Phillips took charge of the registration desk with help from
Pat Kiowski Shaw, Mary Roberts Mokry, Donna Miller O'Hare and
Barry Strelsky
.
Joan (Bailey) and Chuck Johnson graciously opened their home and provided food and drink for the committee meetings.
The entire committee volunteered their time to attend meetings, help make decisions, share the tasks, and offer moral support throughout the planning stage for this reunion. Thank you!
And a special thanks to all the spouses and significant others who "made do" while we were at all the meetings!

If you were not able to join your former classmates for the 45th Reunion,
we all hope you will start planning now to be in Dallas in 2013.
Send us your ideas for the 50th--or better yet--volunteer to join us in the planning and execution of our Golden Anniversary!

Looking BackÑand Forward!
Every five years for a awhile now, IÕve had the chance to get together with some of the people from my high school years who meant so much to me during that strange and exciting time of my life. Maybe even better is getting to know some of the ones I didnÕt know so well back then. IÕm not sure exactly what makes it so special. Maybe it is Bo looking over at us and being happy we have brought some of the herd back together again. Maybe it is the nostalgia, the chance to see and visit with a group who share memories no other people have. Whatever it is, it is such fun to see how we all turned out. Pretty darn fine, if you ask me.
It is a time for smiles, a time for laughterÑfor remembering the old days and enjoying who we have become. It is too short a time to say everything, to hear everything, to learn everything I want to know about everyone. Maybe that is what keeps me coming backÑthe opportunity to see everyone again. If you werenÕt able to be here this year, please make plans now to be here for our 50th reunion That will make it the best one yet!
I look forward to seeing everyone again!

The year was Õ63 when we spun those 45s.

Now itÕs 45 years later, and weÕve managed to survive.

We were freshman, now weÕre ÒseniorsÓ

Ñso what happened to those years?

Well, we scrimped and saved and raised our kids,

and built our own careers.

The class grew up and prospered, our voices strong and loud.

We help contribute to our world. Mr. Griffin would be proud.

WeÕve succeeded and weÕve messed up, and weÕve surely paid our dues.

So letÕs ditch our ties and pantyhose, and don our blue suede shoes.

The Bison headÕs still talking, although the herd has spread.

He wants us all to meet again, to honor what we had.

Now itÕs time to turn to romance and recapture all the glow.

ItÕs Kiest Park, Kips, and memories.

Come, Bisons, all, "Yea, Bo!"

(Thanks to Diane Digiacinto Duffey for this great poem!)

The Sunset High School Alumni Association was formed in the summer of 2000 to advance continuing interest in Sunset High School as one of Dallas' important institutions and to champion its historic significance through its, graduates, its physical facilities, and its students.

Through contributions and fund raising efforts, the association will promote an on-going pride in attendance at Sunset High School and will celebrate its role in the growth of Dallas and the North Texas region. In particular, the association will develop funding for the betterment of Sunset High School and its students.

Their website is full of information about Sunset classmates, activities planned, and Oak Cliff history and news. Our class has donated to the Sunset Foundation through the Association and we encourage you all to visit both websites.
